Among its residents was Munna, a hardworking and innocent young man. Munna worked alongside his father in the fields and managed a small shop in the village.

About a year ago, Munna got married to Sunita, a lively and beautiful girl from the neighboring village. Initially, everything seemed perfect. Munna was excited about his new life, and Sunita appeared to be content. But as time passed, the situation began to change.

Villagers often mocked Munna for not leaving the village for better opportunities. “Why waste your time here? Go to the city and earn real money,” they would say. Their words began to weigh heavily on Munna, especially because Sunita also started echoing similar sentiments.

“You think we can live our entire lives on what you earn here? Look at my brothers—they’ve all moved to cities and are earning so much. Why can’t you do the same?” she often taunted.

Munna felt trapped. On one hand, he wanted to stay with his family and continue the work he had always done. On the other, the constant taunts and his wife’s growing dissatisfaction pushed him to make a difficult decision.

The Decision to Go to Delhi

One evening, Munna informed his father about his plan to go to Delhi and find work. His father was skeptical. “Son, life in the city is not as easy as it seems. We are doing fine here. Why leave?” he said.

But Munna had made up his mind. “I’ll earn more there, Baba. Sunita will be happy, and people will stop mocking me,” he replied.

Sunita, who had grown increasingly restless, supported the decision. She handed him an address and said, “This is my brother’s place in Delhi. You can stay there while you look for work.”

With a heavy heart, Munna left for Delhi. Before leaving, he promised his father, “I’ll come back soon, Baba. And when I do, things will be better for all of us.”

A few days after Munna left, Sunita told the family she wanted to visit her parents. They thought it was a natural thing to do and let her go. However, when she returned eight days later, she brought back most of her belongings.

It wasn’t long before the truth began to surface. Sunita had a lover, Amit, who lived in Delhi. The address she had given Munna wasn’t her brother’s—it was Amit’s. When this revelation came to light, Munna’s father was devastated.

The Conspiracy

People in the village pieced together the story. Sunita had sent Munna to Delhi under the pretense of finding work, but it was all part of a larger plan. Amit, her lover, had wanted to remove Munna from the picture permanently.

The villagers speculated that Amit had murdered Munna in Delhi, but there was no concrete proof. Munna’s father filed a police complaint, detailing everything he knew, but the authorities were indifferent. “It’s a big city. Without proper evidence, finding someone is almost impossible,” they said.

Munna’s father, determined to find his son, considered going to Delhi himself, but his age and deteriorating health held him back. His mental state began to crumble under the weight of worry and despair.

Munna’s family never heard from him again. His mother waited every day, hoping against hope that her son would return. His father, once a strong and proud man, lost his sanity. Their once lively home turned into a place of sorrow and silence.

As for Sunita, she never admitted to any wrongdoing. After a while, she and Amit vanished from the village, leaving behind a trail of suspicion and heartbreak.
