A Cruel Joke: Israel Hamas ceasefire on 19 Jan, 2025
A Cruel Joke
After such a long, endless war,
Where the earth was soaked in blood,
Where dreams turned into ashes,
Where even screams gave up.
Thousands of lives were lost,
Homes destroyed, streets abandoned,
Mourning lingers in every corner,
Pain unmeasured in every heart.
And now, this ten-day ceasefire,
So we can shed our tears in peace?
So we can walk through the ruins,
And remember those we once called home?
This is no peace; this is mockery,
A dagger twisting in our wounds,
What solace lies in these ten days,
When our world has been consumed?
Who will return to these streets,
The ones that war has taken away?
How will these scars ever heal,
When loss darkens each passing day?
Will grief fade in ten mere days?
Will our tears simply dry away?
Will laughter echo in burnt homes?
Will children return to run and play?
No, this ceasefire is an illusion,
A cruel joke played upon our souls,
For war still lurks beyond the silence,
And we count down days like fools.
If peace was ever truly meant,
This war would never have begun,
The ones who grant us these ten days,
Could have spared us, every one.
But no, this pause is but a lie,
Soon, the guns will roar again,
The fires will rise, the graves will fill,
And sorrow will have no end.
So must we only mourn and wait,
Losing loved ones to endless hate?
Or rise against this war itself,
To end it before it’s too late?
